Chief Bill Walker

Chief Bill Walker is a Southern California native. After graduating from the University of Southern California in 1990, he began working for MEDEVAC Ambulance as an EMT and then became a Paramedic.  After graduating from Rio Hondo Fire Academy he was hired by the Fountain Valley Fire Department in 1995 as a Firefighter Paramedic.  Chief Walker worked up through the ranks and was ultimately promoted to Fire Chief at Fountain Valley.  In 2011 he accepted the job of Fire Chief for the City of Alhambra where he served for 5 years.  He accepted the Fire Chief position for the Santa Monica Fire Department in 2016.

Chief Walker has served as the President of the Los Angeles Area Fire Chiefs Association and the Foothill Fire Chiefs Association, and has a long history as an active leader within Los Angeles and Orange County fire service.  He currently leads our Class 1 fire department of 136 sworn and civilian employees; manages 5 Fire Stations, a Fire Prevention Division that is responsible for preventing loss of life and property, and a satellite regional training center that runs a State Fire Training Accredited Local Academy.
