The Santa
Monica Fire Department is responsible for ensuring that fire and life safety is
provided and maintained in the buildings that fall under its jurisdiction. The scope
of work that requires review by the Fire Prevention Division includes: fire-rated
construction, all types of fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, mechanical
smoke control systems, exiting (including exit signs and emergency lighting)
and all high-rise construction (new and existing). Plans, including new work
that triggers separate Fire Department permits (such as storage or use of
hazardous materials, public assembly occupant loads, and high-pile storage),
are routed to Fire Prevention to ensure compliance with the Santa Monica Fire
Code.
These
are the minimum requirements when submitting plans for review:

Submitting
Plans for Review:
Please
note the following:
Three sets of plans with all device related documentation
("cut sheets"), i.e., Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler, or Fire Extinguisher
Systems, etc.
Please allow at least 2 weeks for your plans to be
reviewed. Typically, plans are reviewed
on Mondays and Fridays.
You
must have a valid Santa Monica Business License before approved plans will be
released.
