Tom Clemo is a 34 year veteran of the fire service and has worked all ranks from Fire Explorer to his current position as Deputy Chief with Santa Monica Fire Department where he is responsible for Emergency Operations, Personnel, Strategic Planning, Accreditation, Logistics and Policy.

Tom is the oldest of five children and was born and raised in Long Beach, California. His passion for leadership, commitment to family and passion for the fire service has provided him phenomenal opportunities over his career in the California and Oregon Fire Service.

Prior to his appointment at Santa Monica, Chief Clemo served as the Division Chief of Operations for Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (TVF&R), where he also served as the District Safety Officer and as the Chief of Staff to the Fire Chief.  Additionally, Tom served as the Incident Commander for the Oregon State Fire Marshals Type II Incident Management Team, where he previously served as a Planning Section Chief.  Tom is currently assigned to The California Type 2 Federal Incident Management Team (CAIIMT 15) as the Deputy Incident Commander.

Tom has been an instructor with Texas A&M’s Enhanced Incident Management / Unified Command Course since 2015 and has experience in local, state, national and international deployments; including consulting work on IMT development with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s).
