Urban Search & Rescue Program

The Santa Monica Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team (US&R) was formed in 1999.  After the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, the US&R team was enhanced through Homeland Security grant funding.  The team now has 40 members that utilize state of the art equipment to provide technical rescue services to Santa Monica and the nation.  The Santa Monica US&R team responds from Fire Station 2 in the Ocean Park District.  Their area of expertise are collapsed building stabilization, confined space rescue, trench rescue, breaking and breaching and technical rope rescue.
